Global warming is a climate change phenomenon caused by increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, especially carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O). This process results in an increase in global temperature which has a direct impact on various aspects of life, including ecosystems. The impact of global warming on ecosystems is very significant and includes several important aspects. First, rising temperatures cause habitat changes for many species. Organisms that are unable to adapt to higher temperatures will face the threat of extinction. For example, cold climate species such as penguins in Antarctica are experiencing population declines due to melting sea ice. This disrupts the food chain and threatens the survival of various species. Second, changes in rainfall patterns also have an impact on the ecosystem. Some areas are facing drought, while others are experiencing extreme flooding. Crops that depend on certain rainfall patterns find it difficult to survive, causing losses in the agricultural sector. Biodiversity is threatened, as many plant and animal species cannot survive changing climate conditions. Third, global warming increases the frequency and intensity of natural disasters.
