Whether you’re an avid festival goer or are just starting out, it’s important to understand the importance of keeping your body healthy and immune system strong so that you don’t get sick from the many allergens at festivals like dust, pollen, mold and secondhand smoke. It’s also essential to stay hydrated and eat well during the festival. Dr. Rutland says the best way to prevent getting sick from attending a festival is by taking allergy medication before allergy season starts. It is also helpful to drink lots of water and take Vitamin C. It’s also a good idea to wear a mask during the show and try to avoid crowds when possible.
A festival is a time of celebration, usually centered on religious or cultural beliefs, with feasting, ceremonies and/or entertainment. Many festivals are annual, such as Christmas, Rosh Hashanah, Diwali or Eid al-Fitr. Others are based on the passage of seasons, such as harvest festivals. Some are commemorations of historic events, such as dynastic holidays or military victories.
Some are purely secular, such as Carnival in Brazil or Oktoberfest in Germany. Others, such as the Burning Man or Fringe Festival, have roots in religion, but are today more about celebrating cultural events or musical artists.
Most people who attend festival do so for the music, but it isn’t uncommon to meet some very interesting people, see some amazing artwork or have a great meal. There is a community feel to festivals, with people helping each other out and looking out for each other, especially during a medical emergency or if someone gets lost. I have personally “adopted” a few people at festivals over the years, to help them get around and make sure they have everything they need.
There are many benefits to attending a festival, including the opportunity to see some of the most famous musicians in the world. There are also a variety of food and drinks, as well as crafts and other items to purchase. It’s a great way to relax and have fun away from the responsibilities of everyday life.
